How to Use Munro Shear Scrapers for Best Results

Cross Grain Bowl Scraping

Mount the scraper on the forward face of the tool holder. The blade will face AWAY from you while the tool holder is pointing LEFT. Rotate the blade into a position where the edge best matches the curvature of the hollowed form. This will mean that the scraping action will be working WITH the wood grain.

The Tool handle and shaft are held HORIZONTALLY and approximately in line with the axis of the work piece. With the bevel almost rubbing the rotating work piece, the blade is presented GENTLY producing a fine shaving and dust as the tool moves slowly and steadily towards the bottom dead centre of the piece.

This process is repeated until all the tool marks and defects have been removed and the desired internal contours have been achieved.

This tool is designed for fine finishing cuts ONLY. If you are finding the tool requires undue pressure against the workpiece it is probably time to sharpen the blade.

End Grain Bowl Scraping

Mount the scraper blade so that it is facing TOWARDS you with the tool holder pointing to the LEFT. Rotate the blade into a position where the edge best matches the curvature of the hollowed form.

The Tool handle and shaft are held HORIZONTALLY and approximately in line with the axis of the work piece. With the bevel almost rubbing the rotating work piece and the tool moving TOWARDS the work piece opening, the blade is presented GENTLY producing a fine shaving and dust.
