The premier and only full time wood turning school in the world and named after Jean-François Escoulen.
Located in Aiguines in the South of France in the birthplace of modern wood turning. The town includes a wood turning museum.
After completing a traditional apprenticeship in cabinetmaking (table legs, styled legs, balusters, etc.) in 1972, Jean-François Escoulen gradually turned his attention to creating unique pieces. His mastery of fine and eccentric turning has led him to share his knowledge around the world. Between 2010 and 2012, building on this experience and his national and international reputation, Jean-François Escoulen and his wife Monique Escoulen, a cabinetmaker, worked at the request of the municipality of Aiguines to create the Jean-François Escoulen woodturning school.
The school offers 700 hours of full time and practical tuition with two very stringent one week exams to qualify. Our main teacher was Yann Marot and our assistant teacher was Laurent Niclot. Some of the other teachers I was fortunate to learn from included Nathalie Groeneweg, Joss Naigeon, Hubert Landri, Thierry Berthéas and Alain Mailland.
