This utility knife wasone of the first knives that my life partner Elena Kames and I made together in my workshop in Carcassonne. Elena carefully shaped the handle and the final form reflects her delicate touch.
The handle is crafted from blue‑and‑black patterned G10, a resin composite known for its exceptional durability. It’s a material that behaves differently from wood—dense, stable, and precise—yet it still invites creativity. Elena shaped it entirely by hand, adding white fibre liners between the G10 and the steel tang to create a clean, graphic contrast. The result is a handle that feels modern, balanced, and confident.
The blade itself features Damascus patterns, adding a subtle decorative rhythm to the steel. The guard is made of bronze with a warm golden finish, inlaid with a fleur‑de‑lis, a symbol of purity and balance. Two gold rivets secure the handle, completing the composition with a refined touch.
This knife comes with a custom leather sheath made by Sélène Maroquinerie, a leather artisan whose boutique sits just a few steps from mine in the Bastide Saint‑Louis. For this model, I added a small Occitan cross, laser‑engraved as a nod to our region’s heritage. It’s a collaboration I value deeply—two crafts meeting in a single object.
Finished with our workshop blend of beeswax, carnauba wax, grapeseed oil, and orange essential oil, the handle is protected and nourished while retaining its natural tactile feel.
A practical knife, yes—but also a celebration of learning, partnership, and shared craftsmanship.
